Nurturing Together: Parents' Corner

If you are a parent of a preschooler that’s brimming with energy, curiosity and questions, we understand it can be a little hard to keep up with their energy levels. At WonderWorld, we spend most part of our days with kids of all ages, mindsets and learning capabilities. A school is like a home away from home for the kids. This makes it extremely important for a school teacher to be a good parent to every child.

Work on their communication skills: 💡

It is no surprise that kids learn from what they observe. Your child observes the way you are vocal about your feelings, how you react towards certain things and how you communicate with other people. The way you treat others in front of them will impact the way they converse with others. Also, the clearer the communication skills are, the better they will be able to engage with other kids and teachers in the school.

Show them how teamwork is done: 💡

One of the biggest gifts a parent can give to their child after the gift of knowledge is encouraging them towards teamwork. As an educational institute where we see hundreds of students coming from different households, we can’t stress enough the importance of teamwork in a child’s life. Regardless of whether your child is a single child or as a sibling, there will be areas in life where they will be required to either work with people or lead them. Even a task as simple as learning in a classroom, playing on a see-saw requires a child to do teamwork.

Praise them for being good:💡

We all love compliments and kids are no different. In order to raise an independent and responsible child, the teachers at WonderWorld never fail to praise a child whenever they do something good. Let them be conscious of their actions as well as consequences. If they do something wrong, instead of getting angry at them, try to keep a calm mind and show them why it is wrong.

Do not put too many things on their plate:💡

As parents, it is understandable how you may want your child to excel in all aspects of life. However, it is important to keep in mind that they are just kids and every child has a different learning capability. Let them stay true to their nature and explore the things/activities that they find naturally intriguing. Let them learn one thing at a time and form a schedule that is comfortable for your toddler.

Don’t expect them to act like adults:💡

Parents often expect too much from their kids too soon. You have to understand that they are still kids and in their learning stage. Saying “NO” all the time or expecting them to understand what you say for the first time is an unrealistic expectation to have from your little ones. Instead of pressurising them to learn new things, encourage them to explore and keep trying. In the process, you will also find what interests and motivates your child. Being creative while giving them a task and ensuring that it will be fun for both of you is a great way to make them do something.

Never neglect inculcating values and morals in them:💡

Young minds are like wet clay. Given the right environment to learn and grow, they can turn into beautiful worlds of art. The values, principles and morals you teach them at an early age will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Do not forget to teach them skills and ethics that will make them good human beings when they grow up. This includes values like the importance of consent, humility, compassion and gender equality.

Try not to be too strict:💡

Do not confuse discipline with strictness. Contrary to the popular belief, children actually tend to be more stubborn when parents are too strict with them. Talk to your children in a friendly manner and try to win their trust so they can communicate their feelings to you. Having said that, try not to be too mellow as well. Don’t put a blind eye to their tantrums or bad behaviour. Find the right balance between strictness and softness. This will also strengthen your bond with your child over time.

Lastly, it is crucial to understand that there is no perfect way of parenting. As a child grows, so do the parents with them. We all make mistakes which is why it is essential to choose a good preschool for kids to fill in the gaps of rightful upbringing that a parent may not be able to fulfil. A preschool like WonderWorld doesn’t force the students to learn or look at the world a certain way. Here they are encouraged to explore, observe and form strong opinions making them the true leaders and change-makers of tomorrow!
